By Laudiaann Sylvest
When most people think of me, Laudiaann Sylvest, they picture a gifted creative — a crochet artist, entrepreneur, gospel recording artist, and multi-instrumentalist. But there’s another side to my story that’s just as important: my dedication to caring for others as a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA).
My work as a CNA reflects the same commitment, precision, and patience that I bring to my artistic and business endeavors. In the healthcare setting, I play a crucial role in supporting nurses and other medical professionals by providing hands-on care to patients. This includes assisting with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, feeding, mobility support, and vital sign monitoring. My presence offers comfort not only to patients but also to their families, as they know their loved ones are in compassionate and capable hands.
A CNA’s work is often described as the heart of patient care — a role that requires empathy, resilience, and attention to detail. I thrive in this environment because I combine my strong work ethic with genuine compassion. I believe every patient deserves dignity, respect, and a listening ear, whether they are in a hospital, nursing home, or assisted living facility.
Balancing healthcare responsibilities with my creative pursuits may seem like a challenge, but to me, both paths are deeply connected. Caregiving is an act of service, and so is creating something beautiful. Both my artistry and my nursing skills share the same foundation — a desire to enrich lives, whether through healing hands or handmade creations.
As a CNA, I am more than just support for medical teams — I am a source of warmth, encouragement, and hope for those who need it most. My life’s work, in both art and healthcare, is a testament to the power of compassion expressed in different forms.
